Here's a YouTube playlist of these songs for continuous listening
ISHINOHANA - Lucia [Grabaciones Accidentales]
This track is my favourite from Ishinohana's album from 1986 "La Flor de Piedra", which is an obscure masterpiece of 80's Spanish music, reissued and remastered by Emotional Rescue. With its wandering guitar melodies and slow groove of tabla-esque rhythms, it evokes a luminous optimistic feeling.
BRAMBLES - In The Androgynous Dark [Serein]
This is one to drift away on, laying in a boat staring at the night sky. In fact I think this is the most relaxing song I have ever heard. It comes from a favourite album of mine, Charcoal, which Brambles crafted mostly from on old acoustic piano and field recording sounds.
TEMPELHOF & GIGI MASIN - Silver Wave [Hell Yeah Recordings]
This song makes me feel an incredible cluster of euphoria, sadness, optimism and sentimentality. Fittingly, Gigi Masin is a composer and musician who was born in Italy's floating water city of Venice.
KHRUANGBIN - White Gloves [Night Time Stories]
This Texan band are strongly influenced by 1960s Thai funk sounds and create drifting, hypnotic and spacious soul music. I could float away on everything they lay their hands on.
THE DURUTTI COLUMN - For Belgian Friends [Factory Once]
For me, this song's flourishes of tinkling piano evoke sparkling sunrays while its bass rhythm conjures a corduroy of fat toppling waves. However, as The Durutti Column are an English post-punk band formed in 1978 in the landlocked, cloudy city of Manchester, England, I doubt this is what they themselves were channeling! It's amazing when you discover albums which you can listen to straight through, over and over and not tire of them. This song comes from one such album.
